Private, U.S. Army
Private Orren Bennett was an American soldier who fought in the American Civil War. Serving in the U.S. Army, Bennett demonstrated extraordinary heroism during the final stages of the conflict in Virginia.
On April 6, 1865, during the Battle of Sayler's Creek, Bennett performed the action for which he would receive the nation's highest military decoration. His conspicuous gallantry in the face of the enemy secured his place in American military history.
In recognition of his valor, Bennett was officially honored with the Medal of Honor on May 10, 1865, shortly after the cessation of major hostilities in the Eastern Theater.
