Boatswain's Mate First Class, U.S. Navy
Reinhardt John Keppler was an American navy serviceman who posthumously received the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal in World War II. Serving in the United States Navy, he demonstrated extraordinary heroism and devotion to duty while serving aboard the USS San Francisco during the battle.
Keppler's actions on November 12–13, 1942, saved the lives of many of his shipmates. Despite being mortally wounded during the intense naval engagement, he continued to assist in damage control efforts and direct fire-fighting operations, refusing medical attention until he collapsed. His bravery in the face of mortal danger remains a legendary chapter in U.S. Navy history.
He posthumously received the nation's highest military decoration for valor, alongside several other service and campaign medals representing his dedicated naval service during the second World War.
