Sergeant, U.S. Marine Corps
Reuben J. Phillips was a United States Marine who served during the Boxer Rebellion at the turn of the 20th century. During his service, he distinguished himself through acts of bravery that earned him the nation's highest military decoration, the Medal of Honor.
While serving as a Corporal during the hostilities in China, Phillips demonstrated exceptional fortitude and courage under fire. His actions during the relief expedition of the Allied forces against the Boxer rebels were deemed to have met the highest standards of the United States Marine Corps.
Following his distinguished service in the Boxer Rebellion, Phillips continued his career in the Marines, eventually reaching the rank of Sergeant. He remains remembered as one of the early Marine Corps heroes of the twentieth century, representing the valor of the Corps in distant conflicts.
