First Lieutenant, U.S. Army
Robert Milton McGovern was an officer in the United States Army during the Korean War who served with distinction. He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions on January 30, 1951, where he sacrificed his life to ensure the success of his unit's mission.
McGovern's military career began prior to the Korean War, as evidenced by his receipt of the World War II Victory Medal. During his service, he served with the 1st Cavalry Division, leading his men in intense combat operations on the Korean Peninsula.
In addition to the Medal of Honor, Lieutenant McGovern was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in action, the Combat Infantryman Badge, and several campaign and service medals representing his contributions in both World War II and the Korean War.
