Second Lieutenant, U.S. Army
Robert M. Viale was a United States Army officer who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor, the United States military's highest decoration for valor, for his conspicuous gallantry during World War II.
Serving as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, Viale's extraordinary heroism and self-sacrifice during combat operations in the Pacific theater cemented his legacy as a true American military hero.
To honor his ultimate sacrifice and memory, several military facilities have been named in his honor. These include a small arms firing range at the Ohio National Guard Training Site at Camp Perry, Ohio, as well as a grenade range bearing his name and displaying his Medal of Honor citation at Camp Roberts, California.
