Sergeant, New Zealand Army
Samuel Forsyth, VC was a New Zealand soldier who served during the First World War. He was a posthumous recipient of the Victoria Cross (VC), the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that could be awarded at the time to British and Commonwealth forces.
Forsyth served with the New Zealand Army, and his actions during the war earned him the nation's highest military honor. Following his death in action, his Victoria Cross was presented to his wife, Mary, by King George V during a ceremony at Buckingham Palace in late November 1918.
In addition to the Victoria Cross, Forsyth's service was recognized with the 1914–15 Star, the British War Medal, and the Victory Medal. These medals were eventually acquired by Lord Ashcroft and are currently on display in the Imperial War Museum.
