Biography

Samuel P. Kenyon was an American soldier who fought with the U.S. Army during the American Civil War. Serving as a Quartermaster Sergeant, Kenyon demonstrated exceptional bravery on the battlefield, which ultimately earned him the nation's highest military decoration.

On April 6, 1865, during the Battle of Sailor's Creek in Virginia, Kenyon distinguished himself by successfully capturing an enemy flag. This act of gallantry occurred in the closing days of the conflict as Union forces pressed the retreating Confederate Army of Northern Virginia.

In recognition of his valor, Kenyon was officially honored with the Medal of Honor on May 3, 1865. His dedication and heroic actions during the Civil War remain a significant part of his regiment's historical legacy.
