Private Samuel S. French was an American soldier who fought in the American Civil War. Serving in the U.S. Army, he demonstrated exceptional bravery during the Battle of Seven Pines in Virginia on May 31, 1862.
In recognition of his valor during this engagement, French was awarded the Medal of Honor, the United States' highest military decoration. The medal was officially presented to him on October 24, 1895, decades after his service during the conflict.
