Landsman, U.S. Navy
Samuel W. Kinnaird was a Union Navy sailor who served during the American Civil War. Serving as a Landsman, his exceptional service and devotion to duty during intense naval operations earned him the United States military's highest decoration for valor.
Kinnaird was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions during the historic Battle of Mobile Bay on August 5, 1864. While serving on board the USS Lackawanna, he demonstrated outstanding fortitude and bravery under heavy enemy fire as Union forces successfully penetrated the Confederate defenses at Mobile Bay.
