Second Lieutenant, British Army
Second Lieutenant Sidney Clayton Woodroffe VC was an officer in the British Army during the First World War. He was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
His extreme gallantry in action earned him the nation's premier award for valor. The medal itself is now preserved and held in the Lord Ashcroft V.C. Trust Collection, which is housed at the Imperial War Museum.
