Stanley Bender was a Lithuanian American United States Army soldier who served during World War II. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he later joined the military to serve his country during the global conflict.

He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army. During his combat service in the war, he exhibited extraordinary heroism that earned him the nation's highest military decoration for valor.
