Corporal Thomas Cullen was an Irish-born soldier who served in the United States Army during the American Civil War. He distinguished himself through outstanding bravery during active combat operations in Virginia.
On October 14, 1863, during the Battle of Bristoe Station, Corporal Cullen performed the actions that would earn him the nation's highest military decoration. For his valorous conduct in this engagement, he was officially presented with the Medal of Honor on December 1, 1864.
His legacy remains preserved as one of the immigrant soldiers who made significant contributions and demonstrated extraordinary courage under fire during the preservation of the Union.
