Lieutenant, British Army
William Basil Weston was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
He served as a Lieutenant in the British Army during World War II. His exceptional valor in combat led to the posthumous award of the Victoria Cross, the premier decoration for gallantry in the British armed forces.
In 2001, his nephew, Basil Weston of Ulverston, placed Lieutenant Weston's Victoria Cross on permanent loan at the Green Howards Museum in Richmond, where it remains on display to honor his memory and heroic actions.
