Biography
Lieutenant Colonel William D. Swenson is an officer in the United States Army who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his conspicuous gallantry during the War in Afghanistan. On October 15, 2013, he received the nation's highest military decoration from President Barack Obama, making him the sixth living recipient of the Medal of Honor from the War on Terror.
Swenson's military service includes deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan. Throughout his career, he served with distinguished units including the 10th Mountain Division and the 32nd Infantry Regiment, demonstrating leadership and exceptional valor under fire in high-intensity combat operations.
In addition to the Medal of Honor, Lieutenant Colonel Swenson has been decorated multiple times for his service and sacrifice, earning three Bronze Star Medals and the Purple Heart. He remains an active-duty officer, representing the highest standards of military professionalism and bravery.
