Drum-Major, British Army
William Kenny VC was an Irish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Born in Ireland, Kenny served as a Drum-Major in the Gordon Highlanders of the British Army, demonstrating exceptional bravery during his service.
Throughout his distinguished career, Kenny served in major conflicts including the Second Boer War and World War I. His actions earned him numerous British campaign medals as well as a prestigious foreign decoration from the Russian Empire. His dedication to duty established him as a highly respected soldier within his regiment.
Following his military service, Kenny joined the Corps of Commissionaires. He passed away in 1936 and was buried in Brookwood Cemetery. In 1999, his previously unmarked grave received a new headstone arranged by The Gordon Highlanders London Association. Today, his Victoria Cross and other medals are proudly displayed at the Gordon Highlanders Museum in Aberdeen, Scotland.
