Sergeant, U.S. Army
William Osborn was an American soldier in the United States Army who served as a Sergeant with the 1st U.S. Cavalry. He distinguished himself during the Indian Wars, a series of conflicts in the American West during the late 19th century.
Osborn was one of several men who participated in Lieutenant Colonel George Crook's "winter campaign" against the Apache Indians in the Arizona Territory. This grueling campaign took place during 1872 and 1873, requiring significant endurance and bravery from the participating troops.
For his gallantry during these operations, Sergeant Osborn was awarded the Medal of Honor, the United States military's highest decoration for valor. His actions during the campaign solidified his place among the honored servicemen of the Indian Wars era.
