Major, U.S. Army
William Sullivan "Sully" Beebe was a Union officer who served in the United States Army during the American Civil War. Born in Ithaca, New York, he graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1863 and was commissioned into the ordnance branch. He served his country during the war and remained in the military until his resignation in January 1874.
Beebe was awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions on April 23, 1864, during the Battle of Cane River Crossing in Louisiana. He received the nation's highest military decoration decades later on June 30, 1897, in recognition of his gallantry during this Civil War engagement.
During his service, Beebe rose to the rank of Major in the U.S. Army. His legacy remains preserved as a recipient of the Medal of Honor, representing the ordnance branch and the Union forces during one of the most critical periods in American history.
