Daniel Milliken

Daniel Milliken served as a Quarter Gunner in the United States Navy during the American Civil War. He was assigned to the USS New Ironsides, an ironclad warship that played a significant role in Union naval operations.

On January 15, 1865, Milliken participated in the Second Battle of Fort Fisher, a crucial joint amphibious assault by Union forces to capture the last major Confederate stronghold on the Atlantic coast. During the fierce engagement, Milliken distinguished himself through outstanding courage under fire.

For his gallantry and devotion to duty during the assault on Fort Fisher, Milliken was awarded the Medal of Honor, the nation's highest military decoration. His service remains a testament to the contributions of naval personnel during the key campaigns of the Civil War.
