Boatswain's Mate, U.S. Navy
Henry Dow was a Scottish-born sailor who served as a Boatswain's Mate in the United States Navy during the American Civil War. He is remembered for his conspicuous bravery during a major naval engagement on the Mississippi River.
During the Siege of Vicksburg on May 27, 1863, Dow was stationed aboard the ironclad gunboat USS Cincinnati. When the vessel came under heavy fire from Confederate artillery, Dow performed his duties with outstanding courage and dedication under fire.
