Coxswain, U.S. Navy
Jay P. Williams was an American sailor who served in the United States Navy as a coxswain. His military service is most notable for his participation in the Boxer Rebellion, a major anti-foreign and anti-Christian uprising that took place in China between 1899 and 1901.
During his service in the conflict, Williams demonstrated extraordinary bravery while under fire. His actions during the hostilities led to him being officially recognized by the United States government for his heroism.
For his gallantry in action, Coxswain Williams was awarded the Medal of Honor, the United States military's highest decoration for valor. He remains remembered as one of the key naval figures decorated during this historic turn-of-the-century campaign.
