Quartermaster , U.S. Navy
Jeremiah Regan was a Quartermaster in the United States Navy who served during the American Civil War. He is best known for his actions during the Battle of Drewry's Bluff on May 15, 1862, while serving aboard the USS Galena.
During the engagement against Confederate fortifications at Drewry's Bluff, Virginia, the USS Galena came under heavy enemy shellfire, resulting in severe damage to the vessel and numerous casualties among the crew. Despite the intense danger and chaotic conditions, Regan resolutely remained at his post and continued to man his gun throughout the battle.
For his conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty under fire, Regan was awarded the Medal of Honor. The decoration was officially presented to him on April 3, 1863, under the administration of President Abraham Lincoln.
