Lance-Corporal, British Army
Joel Halliwell was an English corporal in the British Army who was awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
During World War I, Halliwell displayed conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty, actions which earned him the nation's highest military honor. He survived the conflict and later lived in Greater Manchester, England, until his death at the age of 76.
Today, Corporal Halliwell is buried with distinction at Boarshaw Cemetery. His legacy remains preserved by his family and through historical commemorations, including features on the BBC program The Antiques Roadshow, which highlighted his valor and his family's wartime sacrifices.
