Major, Bengal Army
Major John Buckley VC was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, representing the Indian Army. He holds the distinction of being the 115th recipient of the prestigious award and was the very first of 182 Victoria Crosses awarded during the Indian Mutiny.
His military legacy is closely associated with the Royal Army Ordnance Corps. In later years, his Victoria Cross was purchased from his great-niece's estate for a historic sum of £11,000. Today, his medal is preserved and displayed for the public at the Royal Logistic Corps Museum at Worthy Down, Hampshire.
