Melvin Mayfield was a United States Army soldier and a recipient of the United States military's highest decoration, the Medal of Honor, for his actions in World War II. Serving in the Pacific theater, Mayfield demonstrated extraordinary heroism and devotion to duty, culminating in his receipt of the nation's premier award for valor in combat.
Throughout his service in the war, Corporal Mayfield was recognized with numerous other decorations representing his combat service and personal sacrifices, including the Purple Heart for wounds received in action, and the Bronze Star Medal.
