First Lieutenant, U.S. Army
William Allen was a United States Army soldier who served during the Indian Wars in the post-American Civil War period. Serving under the command of Lieutenant Colonel George Crook, he participated in multiple expeditions against the Apache in the Arizona Territory during the 1870s.
He distinguished himself in combat at the Battle of Turret Peak in 1873, fighting against the Yavapai Apaches. For his gallantry in this engagement, Allen was one of only four men to be awarded the nation's highest military decoration, the Medal of Honor.
He achieved the rank of First Lieutenant during his military career, leaving behind a legacy of notable service during the American frontier campaigns.
