Corporal, U.S. Marine Corps
Corporal William David Morgan was a member of the United States Marine Corps who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor, the nation's highest military decoration, for his conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity during the Vietnam War. Serving with the Marines in Quang Tri Province, Corporal Morgan's selfless actions and leadership under fire were instrumental to his unit.
On February 25, 1969, during a fierce engagement with enemy forces, Corporal Morgan made the ultimate sacrifice. His actions during the battle saved the lives of his fellow Marines and exemplified the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.
In addition to the Medal of Honor, Corporal Morgan's sacrifices and service were recognized with the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
