By using VictoriaCross.ca ("the site") you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

VictoriaCross.ca is a working historical archive. Information is provided for research, education, and family remembrance. We work carefully to verify facts but cannot guarantee that every record is complete or free from error; corrections are always welcome via the suggestion page.

When you submit photographs, documents, or biographical material through the site, you confirm that:

• You own the material or have permission to share it.
• You grant us a non-exclusive licence to review, store, and (with your explicit publication permission) display the material on a hero profile.
• You can withdraw publication permission at any time and we will remove the affected material from the site within a reasonable period.

You retain ownership of everything you submit. We do not claim copyright in family-supplied photographs or documents.

Ribbon, medal, and rank-insignia artwork in the archive is generally sourced from Wikimedia Commons or government publications and is in the public domain or under permissive licences. Hero portraits are generally public-domain or family-permission images. Original editorial text on the site (biographies, citations as transcribed and contextualised by our team) is published under the same terms.

You may quote and reference the archive for personal, educational, and journalistic use with attribution. Commercial republication of editorial text requires prior permission.

When you commission paid research:

• We quote based on the scope of the request and confirm before any work begins.
• Findings are delivered as a written report and (with your permission) added to the archive.
• Research depends on what records exist; we cannot guarantee a particular outcome.
• If we cannot complete the requested work, we will refund any unearned portion of the fee.

Support payments and adoptions are processed by Stripe. Card information is handled directly by Stripe and never stored by us.

Support payments are generally non-refundable, but if a payment was made in error or in a duplicate transaction, contact us via the contact page within 30 days and we will assess a refund in good faith.

Hero adoption is a sponsorship contribution toward research and hosting costs; it does not grant ownership of the underlying historical record. Sponsorship can be acknowledged on the adopted profile at your option.

The site is provided "as is". To the extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability arising from your use of the site is limited to the amount you have paid us (if any) in the preceding 12 months.

Don't use the site to harass others, to publish private information without consent, to attempt to gain unauthorised access to systems, or to submit content you do not have rights to share. We may suspend accounts that breach these terms.

When these terms change substantively we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of the page and, where appropriate, notify account holders by email.
